Tour A: CLT Manufacturing and Affordable Housing Tour - Sold Out!

  • George Brown College 51 Dockside Drive Toronto, ON, M5A 1B6 Canada (map)

Overview

This full day tour to visit Element5’s CLT manufacturing facility in St. Thomas will depart from George Brown College’s waterfront campus. The first stop on the route will be at a multi-unit hybrid light wood frame + CLT housing project under construction in Kitchener. This affordable housing development at 55 Franklin Street is the location of four 6-storey buildings. It is predicted that building 3 will be underway at the time of the tour. From there, the tour will proceed to the factory to see the CLT manufacturing process. Participants will be split into two groups. While the first group tours the factory, the second group will be served lunch and see a presentation by Element5. When the first tour is done, the groups will switch. Following the factory visit, the group will proceed to Hamilton for a tour a CLT midrise housing development nearing completion before returning to the College.

NOTE: Participants will be required to bring and wear their own CSA approved safety footwear that covers the ankle (at least 6” tall). All other PPE (hard hat, high visibility vest, safety eyewear) will be provided. The tour will also involve climbing stairs and walking, sometimes over uneven ground, so participants are asked to make sure they are physically able to participate before registering.
