  • George Brown College 51 Dockside Drive Toronto, ON, M5A 1B6 Canada (map)

Overview

This full day tour will begin by taking participants to Timber Specialties office for a presentation to introduce Wood Preservation Canada’s CWPCA certification program and offer insight into the world of treated wood products. Participants will be shown wood samples and examples of pressure treatment. From here, guests will travel to Total Forest Industries in Hagersville to tour the manufacturing facility and see how pressure treated lumber is created. TFI is focused on efficiency, quality, and meeting or exceeding all environmental requirements, both existing and forecasted. The next stop on the tour before returning to Toronto is Townsend Lumber, Southwestern Ontario’s largest sawmill operation and an FSC certified facility.

NOTE: Participants will be required to bring and wear their own CSA approved safety footwear that covers the ankle (at least 6” tall). All other PPE (hard hat, high visibility vest, safety eyewear) will be provided. The tour will also involve climbing stairs and walking, sometimes over uneven ground, so participants are asked to make sure they are physically able to participate before registering.
