Tour D: College of Carpenters and Allied Trades Training Facility and Panel Manufacturing Tour

  • George Brown College 51 Dockside Drive Toronto, ON, M5A 1B6 Canada (map)

Overview

As the construction industry evolves to tackle housing shortages and the growing demand for sustainable solutions, workforce readiness and prefabrication are at the forefront of this transformation. Join us on an exclusive tour designed for industry leaders, where you’ll experience firsthand how the latest innovations are shaping the future of building.

We’ll start at the College of Carpenters and Allied Trades (CCAT), where Jason Moreau will guide us through the training programs preparing the workforce for mass timber construction. From specialized mass timber courses to advanced rigging techniques, see how these programs are equipping carpenters for the challenges of tomorrow. David Moses of Moses Engineering will take you through training modules that mirror real-world mass timber construction sites. Learn how carpenters are being trained to handle complex installations, ensuring seamless integration on-site. We’ll also hear from Jeff Morberg of Kinsol Timber, who will share insights from their impressive portfolio of projects, including a 250,000-square-foot mass timber warehouse currently under construction. Together, Jeff and Jason will discuss the collaboration between Kinsol and Local 27 in advancing mass timber expertise.

After lunch, we’ll head to H+ME Technologies, a state-of-the-art, 200,000 square foot facility specializing in prefabricated panels for commercial and mid-rise residential projects. Using cutting-edge digital modeling and precision manufacturing, their process is designed to reduce energy consumption and material waste by up to 70%, while ensuring top-tier quality control. Louis Previte will demonstrate how this innovative approach to offsite construction is setting new standards for efficiency and sustainability. By embracing automation and precision technologies, H+ME Technologies is helping remove traditional barriers, making construction roles more accessible to all, contributing to a more inclusive and diverse workforce.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to gain behind-the-scenes access to the technologies and training programs driving the next generation of construction.

NOTE: Participants will be required to bring and wear their own CSA approved safety footwear that covers the ankle (at least 6” tall). All other PPE (hard hat, high visibility vest, safety eyewear) will be provided. The tour will also involve climbing stairs and walking, sometimes over uneven ground, so participants are asked to make sure they are physically able to participate before registering.
